Justin Gatlin breezed to the 200m title at the US championships in a meeting record of 19.57sec.
Gatlin dominated the race, taking the lead before the bend. His training partner Isiah Young was second and Wallace Spearmon third.
Michael Johnson holds the US record of 19.32 and Usain Bolt the world mark at 19.19.
The 33-year-old Gatlin entered the competition with fresh legs after skipping the 100m because he has an automatic bye into the world championships courtesy of his Diamond League title.
Sunday’s win sets up a showdown with Bolt in both events in Beijing in late August.
Jenna Prandini won the women’s 200m in 22.20sec. Candyce McGrone was second and Jeneba Tarmoh third.
